What Do Government UFO Documents Include?

UFO documents are government or research records about sightings of unidentified objects, investigations into those sightings, or how authorities handled the subject. They take many forms, and their publication does not prove that the objects were extraterrestrial or involved alien technology. [1][4]

For example, a US Air Force file records discussions and recommendations from a committee that reviewed Project Blue Book in 1966–67. The project itself ran from 1952 to 1969, and the committee recommended enlisting a university-based scientific team to investigate selected sightings. [1] A collection of White House and congressional correspondence, mostly from 1998, includes responses to public inquiries about astronaut sightings, photographs from Mars, and government efforts to conceal information. Other documents record the work of research organizations and contractors. BAASS reports from 2009 describe, among other things, the development of databases, the acquisition of sighting reports from MUFON, and investigative work under the AAWSAP program. [2][3][5] Documents from World War II include reports of nighttime phenomena, flashing lights, and unidentified cylindrical objects, along with references to sightings by the 415th Night Fighter Squadron. These descriptions show which sightings, questions, and activities were documented, but they do not establish that every case was solved or identify the objects’ origins.
