Lancashire Police, in northwest England, received 165 reports in 2025 involving mysterious lights, unidentified aerial phenomena and drones. The Sun reported the figures after gathering them through freedom of information requests sent to police forces across Britain. If confirmed, the figure could make Lancashire Britain’s UFO capital, taking the title from Yorkshire.
Yorkshire has recorded the highest number of reports in the country so far, with about 200 over 20 years. But the figures are not directly comparable: Yorkshire’s were collected over two decades, while Lancashire came close to the same total in a single year.
Preston Tops the List
Preston led the county with 35 reports. Blackburn, Burnley and Blackpool followed, with fewer reports.
Some of the sightings are hard to forget. One woman called to claim that aliens had killed her cat and were trying to kill her, too. Another man left a pub and saw, in his words, “aliens and a spaceship.” Others reported drones flying over gardens, homes, schools and fields. The Sun also reported that Roy Teague, an armed response officer with West Midlands Police, investigated hundreds of unusual sightings reported by serving and retired police officers across Britain.
The sightings were recorded by police but have not been verified. There is no evidence that they involved unidentified objects or aliens, and some cases were attributed to drones. Police forces did not specify which sightings they investigated or how thoroughly.
Who Didn’t Provide Figures
Greater Manchester Police, which serves the region’s largest county, declined to provide its sighting figures. The force said locating the records would take more than 30 hours and exceed the cost limit for freedom of information requests. The City of London Police, by contrast, reported no sightings during the period.
Without Greater Manchester’s figures, it is difficult to know whether Lancashire really ranks first or is simply the first among the forces that provided information.
