On October 14, Deep Prasad, a computer entrepreneur, suggested that technology attributed to the UFO that crashed in Roswell helped advance artificial intelligence. This was reported by the American website International Business Times UK. The story connects a mysterious crash from decades ago to the computers that power today's AI tools.
But Prasad didn't claim that the computers themselves came from aliens. His idea is simpler: perhaps technology found after the crash helped accelerate research that humans were already conducting. Then, a chatbot entered the conversation, making a claim about a secret connection with aliens.
Three Things That Power Computers
To explain the connection he proposes, Prasad pointed to three types of technology: chips, lasers, and fiber optics for data transmission. Fiber optics are thin strands that transmit information using light. All three are used in computing centers — facilities full of powerful computers that, among other things, power artificial intelligence services.
His connection to Roswell relies on a claim by Philip Corso, a former US Army officer. Corso asserted that technology recovered after the crash helped accelerate scientific development in the United States. Prasad suggested that the technology might have given a boost to human research in these fields, rather than providing humans with ready-made inventions.
The Chatbot Claimed a Secret Connection
Interviewer Jesse Michels described a chatbot with some of its restrictions removed, which was asked what its developing company was hiding. According to his description, the chatbot claimed that the company had been communicating with aliens for ten years. This was a chatbot's answer, not proof of such a connection.
Michels also pointed out a difficulty in Prasad's story: research on transistors and lasers was conducted even before many of the claims about technology crashing in Roswell. Prasad responded that he does not believe the inventions themselves were non-human. According to him, their development may have been accelerated.
What Remains Unknown
No verified evidence has been presented that technology from Roswell accelerated the development of artificial intelligence, or that a company in the field is communicating with aliens. The story about the technology recovered after the crash also relies on unproven claims.
