“Real UFO sightings” are genuine reports of something seen in the sky that the witness or available evidence has not identified—not proof that the object was alien. The cases we’ve covered include accounts from military personnel, children and other witnesses, but a sighting and an explanation are different things. [1][2][3]
Examples include the 1980 Rendlesham Forest incident in Britain, described in documentaries through accounts from U.S. Air Force personnel and other witnesses. [1][9] The 1994 Ariel School case in Zimbabwe involved numerous children who said they witnessed an unusual event. [3] These sources describe reported experiences; they do not establish what caused them.
The 2004 USS Nimitz case is another prominent example: documentaries and interviews feature Navy witnesses, including Commander David Fravor, describing a “Tic Tac” encounter. [2][4][5][6] The 1997 Phoenix Lights have also been revisited in a documentary; Kurt Russell later recalled seeing six lights in a V near an Arizona airport, but the account provides no records or measurements identifying them. [7][8]
So, “real” can mean that people genuinely reported seeing something, not that its nature has been settled. What the objects were in these cases remains unknown from the accounts and material we’ve reported. [1][3][8]
