Two pilots watched a silent triangle pass over Bagram Air Base, blotting out the stars. Years later, the pilot searched for an explanation and found none.
In a 2024 interview, he described several incidents in which he had seen lights in 2023 and 2024, and also recalled the incident in Afghanistan.
No. The pilot searched for information that might explain what he had seen, but found none.
One night in Afghanistan, a reserve pilot stood outside with another pilot, looking up at the stars. Then the stars above Bagram Air Base began to disappear, as if something enormous were crossing the sky.
The two pilots saw a triangle pass overhead without a sound. Years later, one of them described the sighting in an interview with the FBI. The interview also covered lights he had seen in recent years, but the triangle took him back to that night.
The incident took place in June 2002, while the pilot was serving in the reserves in Afghanistan. At around 4:30 a.m., he stood outside, looking at the stars with another pilot.
Suddenly, the stars above Bagram Air Base seemed to go dark. Something large passed over the base, moving from west to east. The pilot described its shape as an equilateral triangle, though he could not see the whole thing.
The shape moved silently, at a steady speed and altitude. No lights were visible. The pilot did not know what it was, but was certain he had seen something block the stars.
The other pilot saw the triangle, too. As it passed overhead, he asked, “Did you see that?” They saw the shape at the same moment, above Bagram Air Base.
After that night, the pilot did not discuss the sighting with anyone. He never heard anyone else talk about what had happened, either. Years later, he searched for information that might explain what he had seen, but found none.
It is not known what passed over Bagram Air Base. The pilot said he had found no information that could explain the sighting and knew of no other explanation.
The stars vanished above the two pilots. But something passed overhead that neither could identify.
