A blip that looks different from its surroundings appears on a military aircraft’s display. It usually stays near the center of the image, then briefly slips off the bottom of the screen.
The video runs for about half a minute. A separate report described the phenomena as “cold spheres,” but did not explain what the phrase meant. The video leaves a basic question unanswered: Did the blip move, or did it only appear to move on the screen?
Filming a Screen Inside an Aircraft
The video was filmed on a phone pointed at a sensor display aboard a U.S. fighter jet. A sensor like this displays an image based on heat, so areas with different temperatures may look different. Here, a distinct area is visible, but not the raw data captured by the sensor, only the image shown on the screen.
U.S. Central Command provided the video as part of a report about an unidentified phenomenon. The official description says the area usually remains near the center of the image, then briefly exits through the bottom of the frame. It does not say whether the area itself moved or whether the change resulted from movement by the aircraft or sensor. It describes only what appears in the video.
The Name in the Report
A separate report described the phenomena as “cold spheres” about 1.25 meters in diameter. That is the report’s description, not an identification of what appears in the video. The footage itself shows a blip on a screen and does not allow viewers to determine what it is.
The moment the blip slips off the bottom of the image stands out. It was near the center, then it is no longer visible in the frame. But the video does not show what lies beyond the edge or whether the blip returns.
What Remains Unknown
It is not known what created the blip or whether it moved. The report does not explain what it means by “cold spheres,” or what they are cold relative to. Because the footage shows a screen rather than a direct recording from the sensor, image quality is limited.
The blip passes beyond the edge of the image. Whatever lies beyond remains outside the video.
