Retired General William McCasland disappeared from his Albuquerque, New Mexico home on February 27. His phone and eyeglasses were left behind. It now turns out he previously participated in discussions about UFOs — unidentified phenomena in the sky.
This detail is intriguing due to the timing: eight days before his disappearance, Donald Trump ordered the administration to locate and release documents on UFOs. This was reported by the Walla website, following statements by David Grusch, a former US intelligence officer, and public confirmation by John Podesta, a former senior White House official.
What Happened on the Day of the Disappearance
McCasland was last seen at his home. According to investigators' timeline, a person working at the house spoke with him around 10 AM. His wife left the house at 11:10 AM. When she returned shortly after noon, McCasland was no longer there.
His wallet, a red backpack, and a handgun were not found at the house. The next day, authorities issued a missing person alert, and the FBI later joined the search efforts. His wife told emergency services that she believed her husband planned not to be found. She later told police she did not think foul play was involved.
The UFO Discussions
Grusch claimed that McCasland and Tom DeLonge, a musician who became a well-known figure in the field, participated in an initiative designed to prepare the public for the disclosure of information. Podesta confirmed that he participated in a conference call with the two and with Robert Weiss, a former senior aerospace executive.
Podesta said the discussions dealt, among other things, with the release of classified documents and reducing the negative perception of professionals who take the subject seriously. He disagreed with the claim that the public needed preparation for disclosure.
Eight Days After Trump's Order
On February 19, Trump ordered the administration to locate and release documents on UFOs and extraterrestrial life. On February 27, McCasland disappeared from his home. A connection between the two events has not been proven.
What Is Still Unknown
It is unknown what happened to McCasland or if his disappearance is related to the discussions or Trump's order. Authorities have not released any evidence of such a connection, and the report does not offer a routine explanation for the disappearance.
