On October 12, Charlie Duke, who walked on the Moon, recounted a breakfast that changed how he understood his faith. An old friend brought up a topic they had never discussed before: UFOs, or unidentified flying objects. This was reported by the American website International Business Times.
Duke believes that UFOs are connected to demons, but he doesn't have a story about encountering a mysterious craft. Instead, he sees the conversation with his friend as a sign from God. How did he go from breakfast to a conclusion about UFOs?
He Asked for a Specific Sign
Duke explained that he had previously spoken about his faith at local club meetings. People laughed at him, and he asked God for a sign to help him know if he was right.
The request was precise: an old friend, a businessman he had never discussed UFOs with, would bring up the topic at breakfast the next day. If the friend did so, Duke would see it as an answer to his prayer.
The Friend Brought Up the Topic
According to Duke, the friend indeed invited him to talk about UFOs during the meal. Duke interpreted the conversation as the answer he had been waiting for, and it has strengthened his faith ever since.
He also explained how he arrived at the idea that UFOs are connected to demons. Duke relies on a Bible verse that says Satan can appear as an angel of light. He interprets the verse as a warning: what seems like an encounter with extraterrestrial beings could, in his opinion, be a spiritual deception.
Duke is 91 years old. He was a pilot on the Apollo 16 mission, and in 1972, he walked on the Moon. But, he says, he never saw a UFO during his space missions. He also spoke about flashes of light he saw there; NASA research has linked similar flashes to space particles affecting vision.
What Remains Unknown
It is unknown if the breakfast conversation happened exactly as Duke remembers. Even if it did, it does not prove that UFOs are connected to demons; this is his personal belief. Duke also told the same story on a podcast in 2025.
A friend brought up a topic at the breakfast table. For Duke, it was the answer he had been waiting for.
