What Happened
At about 8:14 p.m. local time on July 3, 2026, two observers in Kallaroo, Western Australia, noticed something unusual in the sky. At first, they saw an intensely bright point resembling a nearby star. Its shape soon became clear: a golden metallic sphere, estimated to be about three square meters in size, that illuminated the area around it.
The sphere moved at about 20 km/h and appeared to be roughly three kilometers from the observers, at an angle of 28° above the horizon. It moved in several directions: north, south, east, and west. As it changed direction, a metallic tail appeared on its lower left side when it traveled south, then disappeared when it turned.
The first observer, who was accustomed to explaining unusual sights in the sky as stars, aircraft, or balloons, described it as “unlike anything he had seen before.” After a few minutes, he called the second witness, who arrived about two minutes later. As soon as the second witness arrived, the sphere began to slow, fade gradually, and grow less distinct. When both witnesses looked back at the sky, the light had disappeared completely.
Context and Possible Explanation
NUFORC logged the report as an “Orb,” with a balloon listed as a possible explanation. The color change and metallic tail could point to a coated metallic balloon or an optical effect involving a high-altitude object refracted by layers of the atmosphere. Still, the changes in color and appearance, along with the object’s irregular movements, leave the explanation uncertain.
Why It’s Interesting
The sighting took place in an area far from cities, in the open with a view of the sea, making it harder to identify aircraft or other vehicles. The sphere’s metallic appearance and glow, and the tail that appeared only when it moved south, add complexity to the case. The two witnesses reported seeing it for only a few minutes, making this a brief but striking sighting.
Summary
The event remains unexplained. It was recorded as an eyewitness sighting of a golden metallic sphere that appeared a few kilometers away, moved at about 20 km/h, and changed direction several times, with its tail appearing in different orientations. A review of aviation records for the area may turn up a natural explanation, but for now, the report remains open to interpretation.
