A glowing light appears in a video whose title links it to an airport in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. Streaks extend from its center as the camera pans back and forth and moves closer. Then the image goes dark.
There is another detail: someone digitally altered the video before uploading it to a restricted computer network. A U.S. office reviewing material of this kind found it there. It is unclear exactly what was changed, or why the user uploaded it to that network.
The Light Emerges From the Darkness
The video runs 17 seconds. At first, there is no image. After a few seconds, the picture gradually comes into view, revealing a glowing light at its center. Streaks extend from it, fading as they move farther away.
The camera pans left and right, then moves closer to the light. The light stays in the center of the frame as the streaks appear around it. A short time later, the image fades to black. The video does not show what surrounds the light.
How the Video Came Under Review
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives asked the Department of War and intelligence agencies for access to material that might concern unexplained phenomena. In response, a U.S. office that investigates anomalous phenomena located material on a classified computer network, including this video.
The office estimates that the video was probably recorded on a commercially available phone in February 2022. A user uploaded it to the classified network in April 2023. The review found that the video had already been digitally altered before it was uploaded, and that it was presented as received. The office did not say who altered it, when they did so, or what was changed.
What Remains Unknown
It is not known what produced the light, where the video was filmed, or whether its title accurately identifies the location. The source offers no conventional explanation for the phenomenon and does not say what it was.
The light disappears into a black screen. By the time the video came under review, it had already been altered.
