Every time the craft made a sound, the tractor engine died.
In 1944, Wladyslaw Karsosky reported seeing a round craft rise over a wall in Germany. Every time it made a sound, the tractor engine died.
FBI Detroit field office case file (100-DE-26505) on Wladyslaw Krasuski, aka Walter Krasuski, who in November 1957 wrote to Robert Cutler, Special Assistant to President Eisenhower, offering information potentially related to a 'rocket in Texas' he had heard about on a Polish radio program. The Bureau directed Detroit (URGENT teletype, 11/6/57) to interview Krasuski; SA Cassius Rathbun did so on 11/7/57. Krasuski, a former Polish POW held by the Germans at Gut Alt Golssen (~30 miles east of Berlin) from May 1942 until shortly after WWII, described observing in 1944 a circular vehicle 75-100 yards in diameter and ~14 feet high rising vertically from a tarpaulin-walled enclosure, accompanied by a high-pitched whining noise that coincided with the stalling of a tractor engine. The file also contains a 1966 inquiry from the Oklahoma UFO Research Association (Kerry Liesch) and SAC Paul H. Stoddard's reply referring the requester to Wright-Patterson AFB.
While enroute to work in a field a short distance north of Gut Alt Golssen, the tractor engine on which Krasuski and a German driver were riding stalled on a road through a swamp. No machinery or vehicle was visible, but a high-pitched whine 'similar to that produced by a large electric generator' was heard. After 5-10 minutes the noise stopped and the tractor restarted normally. Approximately 3 hours later, in the same swamp area away from the road, the work crew (under SS guard) observed a tarpaulin-walled circular enclosure ~100-150 yards in diameter and ~50 feet high, from which a vehicle rose vertically, cleared the wall, and moved horizontally a short distance out of view (obstructed by trees). The vehicle, observed from approximately 500 feet, was described as circular, 75-100 yards in diameter, ~14 feet high, with stationary dark gray top and bottom sections (each 5-6 feet high) and a ~3-foot middle section that appeared to be a rapidly rotating component producing a continuous blur 'similar to an aeroplane propeller, but extending the circumference of the vehicle.' The tractor engine again stalled until the noise stopped. Uninsulated metal cables (possibly copper, 1.5-2 inches diameter) were observed on and under the ground, partly water-covered, apparently running between the enclosure and a small concrete column-like structure. Upon revisit shortly after WWII, the cables had been removed and both the concrete structure and enclosure locations were submerged.
Krasuski sent a letter to Robert Cutler, Special Assistant to the President, stating he 'might have some information about the rocket in Texas' which he had heard about on a Polish radio program, asking to whom he could speak.
SA Cassius Rathbun interviewed Krasuski at his Detroit residence. Krasuski exhibited 'no indication of irrational or otherwise abnormal behavior' or 'mental instability.' He explained he addressed his letter to Cutler rather than directly to Eisenhower after seeing Cutler's photograph in a local paper. FBI Detroit indices and Michigan Merchants Credit Association records reflected only routine credit inquiries from 6/56, 3/57, and 6/57 confirming his address and employment.
Kerry Liesch of the Oklahoma UFO Research Association wrote to FBI Detroit requesting information on UFO sightings 'in your area in early spring of this year.' SAC Paul H. Stoddard replied that the office did not have the requested information and suggested contacting the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB.
"I MIGHT HAVE SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE ROCKET IN TEXAS. HEARD ABOUT IT ON THE POLISH RADIO PROGRAM, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW TO WHOM I COULD SPEAK TO"
Speaker: Wladyslaw Krasuski (quoted in URGENT teletype to SAC, Detroit)
Why it matters: Reason for FBI interest; tied the witness's reach-out to the contemporaneous 'Levelland, Texas' rocket/UFO press reports of November 1957.
Page 8
"News report of mysterious vehicle in Texas causing engines to stall prompted him to communicate with the United States Government concerning a similar phenomenon observed by him in 1944 in the area of Gut Alt Golssen"
Why it matters: Explicit cross-reference between the 1957 Texas (Levelland) engine-stall reports and Krasuski's 1944 wartime observation.

"a circular enclosure approximately 100 to 150 yards in diameter protected from viewers by a tarpaulin-type wall approximately 50 feet high, from which a vehicle was observed to slowly rise vertically to a height sufficient to clear the wall and then to move slowly horizontally a short distance out of his view"
Why it matters: Core eyewitness description of the alleged 1944 craft and its concealed launch site.

"circular in shape, 75 to 100 yards in diameter, and about 14 feet high, consisting of dark gray stationary top and bottom sections, five to six feet high. The approximate three foot middle section appeared to be a rapidly moving component producing a continuous blur similar to an aeroplane propeller, but extending the circumference of the vehicle"
Why it matters: Detailed morphological description of the object.

"No indication of irrational or otherwise abnormal behavior by KRASUSKI was observed during the interview."
Speaker: SAC, Detroit (airtel to Director)
Why it matters: Explicit FBI assessment of witness credibility.

This record is FBI Detroit case file 100-DE-26505 ('Unidentified Flying Objects; IS-X' — Internal Security X). The 1957 trigger was Krasuski's letter to Robert Cutler, Special Assistant to President Eisenhower, prompted by Polish-language radio coverage of the Levelland, Texas events of early November 1957. The substantive content is a 1944 wartime claim of a circular VTOL craft at Gut Alt Golssen near Berlin under SS guard — useful for cross-referencing both the Levelland cluster and any post-war 'Nazi flying disc' material elsewhere in the corpus. The file also bookends with a 1966 letter from the Oklahoma UFO Research Association and SAC Stoddard's standard referral to Wright-Patterson AFB. Pages 3, 5, 6, 11 in the OCR are essentially unreadable and may correspond to withheld pages or photo-copy bleed-through. Redactions in the recoverable text are all FOIA(b)(6) personal-privacy on PII (DOB, birthplace, alien registration number).
He wrote to the Special Assistant to the President of the United States, stating he might have information about a rocket in Texas. Following the letter, the FBI ordered an interview with him.
No. The report documents Karsosky's story but does not identify the craft or offer an explanation for the engine malfunction.
"Please be advised that this office does not have the information you have requested. It is possible that the United States Air Force, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, may be the proper agency to contact."
Speaker: Paul H. Stoddard, SAC, FBI Detroit
Why it matters: Standard FBI deflection of UFO inquiries to Project Blue Book / Wright-Patterson in 1966.

In 1944, Wladyslaw Karsosky was working with a team near a military compound in Germany. Behind a tall wall, he saw a round, gray craft slowly ascend.
The craft passed over the wall, and its sound caused the tractor engine to die. Several hours later, it happened again. Years later, Karsosky told FBI agents what he had seen, also describing thick cables that had vanished from the site.
In 1957, Karsosky wrote to Robert Cutler, Special Assistant to the President of the United States. He stated that he might have information about a rocket in Texas, which he had heard about on a Polish radio program, and asked who he could contact. Following the letter, the FBI ordered an interview with him to ascertain what information he possessed.
During the interview, Karsosky recounted what he had seen in Germany. He was working there with a team of prisoners of war — captured soldiers. According to him, the team was working in the compound area, and he himself saw the craft when he moved a short distance from the road.
The craft ascended from within a circular compound, which was surrounded by a tall wall. It rose until it cleared the wall, moved slowly sideways, and disappeared behind trees. Karsosky described a central part that appeared to be moving rapidly.
While the craft made a sound, the tractor engine near him died. The driver waited until the sound stopped, then managed to restart the engine. Several hours later, Karsosky saw the craft again. This time too, the sound was heard, and the engine died; the driver waited, and the engine restarted when the sound ceased.
Karsosky saw thick cables in the area, both on and under the ground. They appeared to connect the compound to a small concrete structure near the road. He noticed them on more than one visit.
After the war, he returned to the location. The cables had been removed, and water covered the area where the compound and the concrete structure had stood.
The FBI documented his story but did not identify what the craft was. The report also offers no possible explanation for why the engine died when the sound occurred.
The cables vanished, and water covered the site. The craft, however, remains only in the story.
