The Photo Album From a Mysterious 1970s Crash Site

Background In the late 1970s, two neighbors—one from across the neighborhood—began talking about unidentified flying objects (UFOs). One mentioned that his father-in-law, a police officer, had taken part in an operation to cordon off the area around an unidentified object’s crash site, an incident known in the media as “Roswell.”

What Was Reported? The man said his wife had received a photo album from the site. According to his account, the pictures showed the field where the object had landed, along with “bodies” of beings that looked “very real.” He did not say what happened to the album—whether it was stolen, destroyed, or kept—and gave no precise information about the site’s location, when the photos were taken, or how long he had viewed them.

Why Is This Interesting? The story offers a secondhand account of visual documentation of a UFO crash, including descriptions of “alien” bodies—an element reminiscent of the dramatic claims associated with the Roswell incident. But there is no physical evidence of the album, and no other source corroborates the claims. The story survives only as a conversation recounted by two people, with details missing or unclear.

What Does NUFORC Say? The report is listed in the NUFORC database as an “unverified eyewitness report.” There are no photographs, no documentation of the location, and no other secondhand account. This means the story cannot be verified and has not been formally investigated. It serves more as an opportunity to examine how UFO crash stories shape popular culture than as scientific evidence.

--- The report is dated approximately July 8, 1947, but it is impossible to determine whether the event was connected to that date or whether the account is simply a memory from the 1970s.
