A Triangle of Light Over Tempe During the Super Bowl: A Two-Minute Sighting

What Happened At 7:40 p.m. local time on Super Bowl night, with the game taking place a short distance from Tempe, the witness stepped outside to take out the trash and looked toward the moon in the eastern sky. They spotted a strange object moving parallel to the moon and heading north. According to the account, it was about 10,000 feet (roughly three kilometers) high and less than a mile from the observer, a position that did not match the usual flight paths of planes approaching Sky Harbor Airport.

What Did the Object Look Like? The observer described a triangle with three points and a steady white-yellow light underneath. The light illuminated parts of the structure in a reddish-orange hue, leading the observer to think it might be the wings or tail of a commercial aircraft. But there were no visible navigation lights and no engine noise. The object moved silently. Its triangular shape appeared smaller than the moon, though the geometric shape made the comparison less clear when the two overlapped.

A Surprising Maneuver At one point, the object made a sharp 90-degree turn to the west in just a few seconds. The observer noted that a conventional aircraft would need much more distance to make such a turn without breaking apart. After the turn, the object’s side came into view, revealing two white-yellow lights, apparently the same light source that had earlier appeared as a glow underneath.

What Can We Conclude? The observer tried to rule out several possibilities, including an airplane, a satellite, and other airborne objects, but none seemed to fit. There was no engine noise and no characteristic aircraft navigation lights. The sharp turn and high speed also raised questions about the object’s maneuverability.

Summary The report describes an unverified sighting of a triangular object with a white-yellow light that appeared to move at high speed and make a sharp turn. No information is available about other witnesses or video recordings. The incident was logged in the NUFORC database under case number 117121.
