The Sighting
On June 9, 2026, at 3:44 p.m., an amateur researcher from the Stateline, Nevada, area reported an unexplained sighting while hiking with two dogs. The route passed near Tramway Valley Market. When the dogs refused to continue along the main path, the hiker turned onto a side trail leading to the back of the mountain, where condominiums are located.
As they continued down the trail, the hiker noticed a white, cylindrical object about 10 feet tall hovering above the edge of a mountain, roughly 300 feet away. The object was tilted at an angle of about 70° above the horizon and appeared to be descending vertically, as if landing slowly. A halo of colored light surrounded it, changing slightly over the course of the sighting.
The researcher described it as a “colorful spinner,” like the ones displayed in gardens, but much larger. The object was white with a colored tint along its edge and appeared to vanish into the rocks at the edge of the mountain.
The sighting lasted about 45 seconds and did not recur. The researcher says he was filming and can provide video showing his position relative to the dogs during the incident. He also says that a few days earlier, they had seen a similar object over Lake Tahoe. That object was a different color and remained visible for about 30 minutes.
Context and Documentation
The report was logged in the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) database under case number 198466. It was a single sighting, with no additional witnesses, but the report provides a detailed account of the location, size, shape, movement, and halo.
What Makes This Case Unusual?
The cylindrical shape and colorful halo do not match ordinary natural phenomena such as meteors, balloons, or aircraft. Its slow movement and possible landing on the rocky surface add to the mystery. However, no independent evidence, such as photographs or radar measurements, supports the report, so the incident remains an unverified eyewitness account.

The report describes an exciting experience for a nature enthusiast, but the existence of a flying object has not been scientifically proven. Continued monitoring and investigation could help us understand similar phenomena in the future.
