A Spinning White Light Over San Bernardino, Accompanied by a Military Helicopter

What Happened At 10:14 p.m. on May 5, 2026, a resident of San Bernardino, California, saw something unusual in the sky. The witness described a bright, round white light, roughly two to three times larger than the path of a helicopter. It appeared about 57° above the horizon and moved toward the observer, from the east-northeast toward the southwest, at an estimated 50–70 km/h (31–43 mph). It was about 600–650 meters (2,000 feet) away, or closer.

The eyewitness also described a thin halo around the light and said a military Black Hawk helicopter was nearby, apparently accompanying or leading it. According to the witness, the light continued flying low over the ground for about five minutes before beginning to fade from view.

Possible Context The report came on an evening when the U.S. military typically conducts night training exercises in open areas of Southern California. Many have suggested that the “light” could have been a drone or another helicopter operating without navigation lights, which would explain its bright white color and halo. The Black Hawk mentioned in the report is commonly used in military training, making an exercise more likely than an unexplained phenomenon.

Why It’s Interesting The incident shows how unexplained lights in the night sky, especially when accompanied by military aircraft, can raise questions about covert military activity or tests of new technology. The witness also recorded the incident on video, adding weight to the account, although the source has not yet been verified.

Summary The report describes a round white light apparently accompanied by a Black Hawk helicopter, with specific details about its altitude, direction, and speed. A military explanation is the most likely, but the incident is another example of a private witness recording an unexplained sighting, and a reminder of the need to carefully examine military activity in civilian areas.
