A Second Egg-Shaped Sighting: The 1972 Fort Beaufort UFO Shooting

Background On a hot summer morning, an unusual visitor appeared at the Brayside farm in South Africa’s Eastern District. Several farm workers saw an “egg” shape in the air: a smooth, rounded object hovering at treetop level above a dense forest. Witnesses said the object kept changing color, glowing green, blue, and even red as it moved slightly.

What Happened? The farm’s owner called the local police station. Officers arrived around 10:30 a.m. and saw the strange light hovering above the trees for themselves. Two officers and the farm owner opened fire on the object, firing about 15 shots in all. According to witnesses, as the shooting continued, the object stopped changing color and turned a double-shaded metallic gray. It continued to fade behind the trees, then reappeared, this time turning white-gray before disappearing completely.

After the Incident The incident was reported in the local press and included in books about unexplained encounters. A few months later, an investigative team from the U.S. space agency arrived in Fort Beaufort and interviewed the workers, the police officers, and the farm owner. The two officers have since retired, and the owner now runs a hotel on the property.

Why Is This Interesting? This is one of the few UAP reports in which police opened fire in plain sight. The object’s ongoing color changes, along with its ability to disappear and reappear, add to the mystery. The written press accounts and the involvement of an outside space agency in the investigation also give the report some weight, though it remains unverified.

Note: This is an eyewitness report that has not been verified by scientific authorities. No concrete information is available about the object’s technology or origin, so the account should be treated cautiously and critically.
