What Happened
At 8:35 p.m. on March 9, 2015, a family returned to their home in Florence, Oregon. As they got out of their car, they noticed something unusual several hundred feet above the ground. The witness described a black, dome-shaped object with a flat bottom, estimated to be about 100–200 feet (30–60 meters) high. They said it was as large as four full moons, covering an area several dozen meters in radius.
The object moved at about 40 degrees above the horizon, on a steady north-to-south path, and made no sound. Thin, evenly spaced openings, described as “louvers,” were visible on top of the dome. A bright white light at the top center of the antenna illuminated the area around it. As the object moved, the light left a thin white trail, suggesting relatively rapid motion.
The witness watched the object for about 10 seconds, until it disappeared behind the tree line. No sounds, vibrations, or changes in the weather were reported. The family later submitted a report to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC). During a phone interview, the witness reportedly came across as clear and serious, with two witnesses in the background: the mother and grandfather.
Context and Significance
The report came during a period when several sightings of unidentified objects were reported in rural parts of the United States, particularly in areas with good visibility and in the evening. An account of a black object with a glowing antenna and a trail of light is unusual in the database, making it of interest to researchers and enthusiasts of unexplained phenomena. However, no video or precise measurements of the object's altitude or speed are available, so the incident remains an unverified sighting.
Conclusion
The incident highlights the importance of collecting firsthand accounts while also presenting the challenge of verifying them. So far, no additional documentation of a similar object in the same area has surfaced, and the report remains open to discussion and further investigation.
