What Happened
At 2:50 a.m. on July 12, 2026, three family members were at a local lookout called Međa in the Duzluk area of Virovitica-Podravina County, Croatia. Suddenly, they saw a large orb of light in warm colors: first bright red, then orange. The orb rose to the witnesses’ height and appeared about 1 kilometer away, at roughly 45 degrees above the horizon.
The orb began to glow and change color repeatedly. Within a short time, it split into two objects—one red and the other white. The two orbs appeared to move toward the witnesses, then retreat, as if “watching” them. The display lasted about four minutes. During that time, the orbs moved closer and farther away several times before vanishing.
The observer said the orb “radiated additional light” around itself, and that its colors kept changing throughout the sighting. The witness also said animals in the area reacted: birds and small mammals appeared anxious or startled. After the orb split, one of the witnesses took out a smartphone and recorded a short video of the two orbs, but started filming only after the split.
The Broader Context
Reports of spherical or oblong objects appear frequently in the NUFORC database, sometimes describing color changes, unpredictable movement, and light radiating around the object. Many sightings take place in remote areas or forests, making it difficult to gather corroborating optical evidence. The reported split into two objects and the animals’ reaction add complexity to this case.
Why It’s Intriguing
The report combines several unusual elements: rapid color changes, the sudden split, movement toward and away from the witnesses, and reactions from local animals. The video clip, though short, could also provide material for scientific analysis if experts are able to identify it.
The report has not been verified, and there is no information about whether precise measuring instruments, such as radar or a thermometer, were available at the time. Still, accounts from three witnesses and the video recording suggest the case merits further monitoring and investigation.
