Mystery Light Over Colby: A Blue-White Orb Flickers Across the Sky

The Sighting At 9:58 p.m., during local July 4 celebrations, I went to a field on the western edge of Colby, Kansas, to watch the fireworks. As clouds gathered overhead, I suddenly felt drawn to look up toward the west. About 1,500 feet away, I saw a large orb, roughly half the size of a car, glowing white before shifting to a pulsing blue. Its light pulsed steadily, as if waving in a continuous sequence.

The orb stayed in place for a few seconds, then suddenly moved southwest before turning around and heading east. It stopped for a second, shifted back to a pulsing blue-white, and remained that way for almost a full minute. Finally, it shot east at high speed, without a sound or a trail, and disappeared from view.

Context and the Challenge of Identification The account came from a local resident, with no photographs or precise measurements. The heavy cloud cover ruled out Venus or another star. The reported speed and sharp turns were unlike the movements of an airplane, drone, or ordinary balloon, leaving questions unanswered. Some details point to the possibility of a drone, but the light’s movement—an almost instantaneous change in direction—and its pulsing glow are not typical of a handheld device.

Why It’s Interesting The report comes at a time of increased UAP activity, particularly in rural areas where visual documentation is limited. The light’s shift from white to blue, and its conspicuous pulsing against the dark clouds, add to the mystery. The object’s behavior—stopping, changing direction, and then moving rapidly—also raises questions about its propulsion and control. If it was human-made, it may have been part of a new technology test; if not, it is another piece of the puzzle of humanity’s encounters with unexplained phenomena.

Summary The report remains unverified and illustrates how difficult it can be to document sightings in the night sky, especially when weather conditions allow only visual observation. As always, the account should be assessed carefully while remaining open to investigating the different possibilities.
