Thousands of Lights Over Bellingham in a Single Night

Description of the Sighting At 11:30 p.m. local time near Bellingham, Washington, about 20 white objects appeared in a line across the horizon. The witness estimated each was about the size of a satellite. The lights moved at high altitude, each in a different direction. Two appeared close together and traveled along the same path.

Brief Background The summer of 2026 saw intense satellite activity around Earth, particularly near the equator, where communications satellite networks and celestial-imaging systems transmit. Satellite sightings are common for people who watch the night sky, but the number of objects and the range of directions they traveled made this sighting stand out.

Why Is This Interesting? The report describes many objects in the sky over a short period, a sight the observer says he had not seen regularly, despite watching the sky each evening during smoke breaks. He says he is used to seeing a few satellites each night, but this time saw about 20, raising questions about satellite clustering, debris from launches, or even new experiments in the field.

What Can We Conclude? The report is classified as an unverified eyewitness account: there is no video or precise measurement of distances or speeds. Still, the description is consistent with satellites: white in color, estimated to be satellite-sized, and moving quickly. Continued observations and recordings of future sightings could help verify what happened.
