Will the US confirm aliens before 2027? The betting odds vs. the facts
Updated October 29, 2026
Short answer
Nothing points that way right now. As of October 29, 2026, no US president, Cabinet member or federal agency has confirmed aliens, and Polymarket traders put the chance of a confirmation by December 31 at about 4%. That price is a bet, not evidence: the markets settle only on a definitive official statement, and every official finding so far points the other way.
Status: As of October 29, 2026: no official confirmation. Polymarket's "before 2027" contract trades around 4 cents (about 3.9%; updated daily), with more than $75 million traded on the market. The UAP Disclosure Act is waiting on the final defense bill.
What exactly people are betting on
Two big prediction markets ask the same question. Polymarket's market, "Will the US confirm that aliens exist before 2027?", opened on November 25, 2025. Kalshi, a US exchange regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), lists a near-identical contract. The terms match:
- Who has to say it: the President, any member of the Cabinet, any member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, or any US federal agency.
- What they have to say: that extraterrestrial life or technology exists, stated "definitively."
- By when: December 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern (Kalshi's version: before January 1, 2027).
- How it's settled: on Polymarket, official US government information plus "a consensus of credible reporting"; Kalshi names the White House as its source.
Two details in the fine print
First, "life" includes microbes. A definitive NASA announcement of life on Mars would settle these markets Yes with no UFO in sight. A "potential" finding, like the potential biosignature NASA reported in September 2025 in a rock sample collected by the Perseverance rover, does not meet the bar.
Second, members of Congress, former presidents and whistleblowers are not on the list. If a lawmaker declares at a hearing that aliens are real, or David Grusch testifies again about "non-human biologics," that is not enough. Neither is "unidentified": AARO, the Pentagon's UFO office, is a federal agency, but as long as it says cases are unresolved, it is not saying they are extraterrestrial.
How to read the odds
In a prediction market you buy a share that pays $1 if the answer is Yes and nothing if it is No. A share trading at 4 cents means traders, as a group, put the chance at about 4%. That was the Polymarket price for the December 31 contract on October 29, 2026; across all its deadlines, the market had traded more than $75 million since it opened.
A price is not evidence. It reflects what traders know and what they guess, and a few big bets or a good rumor can move it. Kalshi bars employees of the agencies whose statements would settle the contract, and anyone holding material non-public information, from trading it, but nobody can see who is behind each bet. The price tells you what the crowd thinks, not what the government knows.
What moved the odds
Polymarket's price history shows how news lifts the market, and mostly how fast the lift fades:
- November–December 2025: the market opened around 7.5%, briefly hit about 15% on December 8, and slid to about 6.5% by year's end.
- February–March 2026: after Barack Obama's podcast remarks (February 14–15) and Donald Trump's order to release the UFO files (February 19), the price climbed from about 9.5% to about 19% within two weeks.
- Late April: the peak, about 20.5%, ahead of the first file release.
- May 8: PURSUE Release 01 went up on war.gov/UFO with no confirmation in it, and the next day the price fell from about 19.5% to 15.5%.
- June–August: more releases, more rumors (like the July 8 "disclosure speech" that never happened) and more declines, down to about 4–5%.
- October 29: about 3.9%.
Five deadlines have already passed
Polymarket splits the market into several deadlines. Five have closed so far, March 31, April 30, May 31, June 30 and September 30, and all resolved No. On Kalshi, the "before September 1" and "before October 1" contracts also settled No. The next ones, Polymarket's "by October 31" and Kalshi's "before November 1," close on October 31 and November 1.
The official record isn't getting closer to a Yes either. AARO's latest annual report, released in July 2026, found that "no evidence suggests that a USG or private entity has ever captured or exploited UAP-derived materials," and every case it resolved turned out to be ordinary. The seven PURSUE releases through October 23, 2026 contain no official finding that aliens exist. Details on our status page.
The UAP Disclosure Act won't change that by December 31
The UAP Disclosure Act passed the House on July 22, 2026 inside its FY2027 defense bill (H.R. 8800). In the Senate, a vote to begin debate on the defense bill failed 50–46 on July 14, short of the 60 needed, so Schumer and Rounds' amendment never got a vote. The final text will be negotiated by the two chambers after the November 3 midterms; the bill usually passes in December.
Even if the full Act survives, it is a records law: a review board that needs nominations and Senate confirmation, deadlines measured in months for the Archives and agencies, and eminent domain over recovered material "should it exist." It confirms nothing, and in practice it cannot produce an official confirmation before December 31. What it can do is jolt the market for a few days.
Dates to watch through December 31
These are the moments when something could move, in the market or in reality:
- November 3: the US midterm elections. Negotiations on the final defense bill start after them.
- PURSUE Release 08: no date announced. The first seven came out on Fridays, two to six weeks apart, the latest on October 23. We track every release on our UFO files page.
- December: final votes on the FY2027 defense bill and the President's signature, which decide the Disclosure Act.
- Any hearing, or any statement from AARO, NASA or the White House. We post them in our live coverage.
- December 31, 11:59 p.m. Eastern: the "before 2027" contracts resolve.
So what are the real chances?
Nobody knows, and the market doesn't know more than you do. What is known: after decades of investigations, several congressional hearings and seven batches of files in 2026, no official body has said aliens exist, and the people who have said so in public are not the ones whose words would settle the bet.
If it does happen, the status line on our tracker will change first, with the exact words and a link to the source. And for what would follow, see the day-after guide.
Questions and answers
Will the US confirm aliens before 2027?
Nothing points that way. As of October 29, 2026, no US official or agency has confirmed aliens, and Polymarket traders put the chance of a confirmation by the end of 2026 at about 4%.
What are the Polymarket odds the US confirms aliens?
On October 29, 2026, the "before 2027" contract traded around 4 cents, or about 4%. Its peak was about 20% in late April 2026. Prices move constantly, so the current number is only on the market page itself.
What counts as confirmation in the Polymarket market?
A definitive statement by the President, a Cabinet member, a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff or a federal agency that extraterrestrial life or technology exists. Testimony, leaks and remarks by members of Congress don't count.
Is there a Kalshi market on aliens?
Yes. Kalshi, a CFTC-regulated US exchange, lists "Will the U.S. confirm that aliens exist before 2027?" with the same terms as Polymarket, plus longer contracts running to January 1, 2028 and January 20, 2029.
Would the UAP Disclosure Act confirm aliens?
No. It is a records law. It passed the House in July 2026, its fate will be settled in the final defense bill, likely in December, and even if it passes, records would come out over months and years.
Would NASA finding microbes on Mars count?
By the markets' wording, yes: a definitive statement by a federal agency that extraterrestrial life exists, microbes included, resolves Yes. A "potential" finding still under study does not.
