Chapter 1
A suit with a secret
Someone stumbles onto a UFO secret. Then strangers turn up in black suits, with a black car. Who are they? Over the years, they've been several different things.
Chapter 2
A costume for forgetting
Some visitors who wanted to keep secrets projected a plain figure: black suit, black car. Staring at it worked like watching a swinging pendulum. It helped people forget.
Chapter 3
The trick that wore off
As news about contact leaked out, the costume stopped working. A few people in government copied it anyway, thinking it was "a nifty idea". By then it had worn off.

Made of our own fear
Mostly, they come from the hidden part of the mind we all share. When someone fears a secret they've stumbled onto, that mind gives the fear a black suit.

Sunglasses after sunset
A singer swore two men in black turned up at a wedding gig, dressed alike, in sunglasses after dark. They were people from our world, "having some fun".
